Significant changes have occurred both in the natural environment and to human life during the past 2 million years and especially during the last 15 thousand years.                         Researching these changes has involved multidisciplinary studies within the broad contexts of earth science, materials science, and anthropology.  Geologists, archaeologists, metallurgists, and anthropologists are working together to document and explain changes in the Earth and human life; however, some of these cultural heritage sites are being threatened or have been destroyed.  Anatolia is one of the most important centers of human civilization because of the availability of settlement sites, migration corridors, and abundant natural resources. Therefore, Anatolia offers a unique opportunity to illuminate the human past. Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. Onder Oztunali from  Istanbul University is a pioneering earth scientist in archaeometallurgic studies in Anatolia and has also collaborated with scholars from the Heidelberg-Bochum Research Group, Germany.  Therefore, the Symposium is dedicated to honor Dr. Oztunali and his contributions.
